UPDATE: Orktober Progress - Totally Pawsome

Hail Mighty Readers and Followers of the Luck Gods Math Rocks,

OK, we've been hard at work getting some Orks done for Orktober, we won't get it all done (the full Armageddon Orks Force, plus the Warbikers and Nazdreg), thanks to the Nurgly thats going round (new word mixing Nurgle and Lurgy.)  However as you saw the other day we managed to get the Warbikers finished and today we have managed to get our Big Mek Dakka Rigg completed.

Yes, we're not Angel Giraldez or Ninjon, but we are having fun, and to be honest we're getting blast out of making our Orks look unique on the battlefield.  As Armageddon is a completely messed up world covered in mud, bullets and damage, thats what we're having our Orks based on, a dirty, churned up wet looking mess with the odd plant sticking out as they march across the battlefield to face their foes.

We're learning lessons as we create, we are putting the lessons into future mini's and of course we all get to enjoy having fun as we get to sit down in these shorter darker days and find fab ways to help relieve our stresses.

OK, so like I said, we are not going to get them all done before the end of the month, but you know what?  Thats OK, it just means that we have more choice on what we want to paint over the darker months of the year as everyone else starts to stress about the holidays and sadly don't think about what they need to do to let the pressure go.

So what have we learned from trying to get over 30 miniatures painted in a month?

1)  Life doesn't care about your plans  Yes this is a simple thing to know but something that we take harder than we should when we're trying to get things done to have a fully painted battle-force on the table.  And if you have plans, sickness can kick you in the butt and take a huge chunk of time out of you.

2)
If you can't paint, Build or Prime.
A strange statement but there are times when  you're all set to to paint but you sit down and end up thinking, I'm not in the mood, so rather than just do nothing pick up a mini you've been meaning to put together for a long time, or grab that spray can or Airbrush and spend a few minutes priming the mini's you have so that they're ready to paint when you get the time.

Then, in the future, it gives you choice about what you want to paint, don't fancy carrying on with that Tau Army because you're fed up with the colours?  Pick up a Skaven (or something different that you have), and start on that.  Or if you've got pics of the mini's that you're going to be painting, pick up your paints, and put dots on that page so you can see how they relate together and check they work before you put paint to mini so you can quickly check your colours before even doing your test model.

3)  Never get upset that some of the mini's you do don't match up to the quality you have in others.  Sometimes you just can't get that final detail right, you know what?  Thats OK, some days your brush hand doesn't want to co-operate, sometimes you can't find that fine detail brush so you try using a different one and make a smudge somewhere you don't want it.  Thats OK to.  You can always get a lot of the work done for the brushes you have and put the mini down partly finished until you can get the right brush to do your right coverup.    (Plus remember if you're painting an army most people only ever see the overall picture not the individual soldiers, its why a lot of people don't spend a ton of time on the unit, they stick to basics and then paint up the leaders in higher detail as thats where most people focus)

4)  If you're not having fun and relaxing, you're not doing it right.   Painting is there to help you relax, to get your mini's done in a way that you love, is it the correct colour for the army?  Nope it doesn't matter, they're your mini's, if you want Neon Pink Goblins because your Orks have gotten drunk and learned not to hit the Pink Gretchin, then do it.  Its a fun side story for your army, it makes you laugh and it relaxes you.

At the end of the day just have fun,

.

All the best,

ThunderMouser
